Since Damon Albarn helped define British youth culture in the ’90s with his iconic Britpop band Blur, the singer, songwriter, label head and activist has produced a staggering culture clash of musical output. Most significant, Gorillaz — his cartoon band collaboration with ‘Tank Girl’ creator and former roommate Jamie Hewlett — has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Begun as an experiment in musical identity, Gorillaz has sold 15 million records with their most recent (and most successful) album, ‘Plastic Beach,’ reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts after its debut in March of this year.
